Our Big Give Water Update!
Safe water has an immense power to change lives. Imagine having to walk 3 kilometres to collect your household’s water, carrying the heavy bucket the 3 kilometres home, only for the dirty water to make you and your family sick. Furthermore, as collecting water is often seen as a job for the women and girls, a lack of access to clean and safe water can worsen the gender gap, as girls have to take time out of school and women have to take time from their work.
We refuse to let people in our communities go without the fundamental human right of access to water. We work hard to identify the best places to drill a borehole and install a water pump for the community, and with thanks to people’s generous donations we can get access to clean and safe water to so many people.

Every year, with the Tanzania Development Trust, we take part in the Christmas Big Give to raise as much money as we can so get water to as many people as we can. In 2024, thanks to all of your generous donations we managed to raise an incredible £18,813! We couldn’t be more grateful to all – but the people we’ve reached with new water pumps are even more grateful, so we thought we might provide you with a little update.
So far we've provided water to 11 sites that have reached 11,000 people!

The impact of these new water pumps has been incredible. As school children have such close access to water, girls and women don’t have to take so much time out of school and work to collect water. School children don’t have to stop their education to walk so far to collect water for their school, meaning all attendances have increased along with their love of school.
Communities no longer have to fear getting sick due to drinking dirty water. They have also have a benefit for the communities against the impacts of climate change, such as relieving the community of droughts. The benefits have even reached the youth through employment! The implementation has created direct employment for over twenty youth, and has improved their food and residential status.
Jacob is now a standard six at Kinyo primary School. He used to walk 2km with a gallon to water source for school use, then he accesses water at school in less than 30 meters.

He says, “I will never miss the school and the session because of water. Before I and my fellow students did not get water to drink at school for 8 hours until we go back home. Now, we don’t even want to have a cup just with our washed hands to drink water from the borehole. Out motive toward better educational achievement at this level have reborn.”

In October, Ziada walked 3km to collect water from bwawani at Tubila then she gets water in 45 meters. “Development is coming to us; I didn’t know that water could have accessed from the ground where no stream/spring. Easy, simple and effective I and my neighbors collect clean and safe water for domestic use from this pump. Honestly, I am surprised and acknowledge all who contributed and made water available here (Kwa Profesa)” She explains.
